Exploring South Lanzarote

“Full of contrasts and extremely varied”, that is what we can say about the landscapes of the southern part of the island that is dominated by the fascinating Timanfaya National Park with more than 30 volcanic peaks – a ‘must see’ for every visitor to the island!

It is here in the south where you will find bizarre nature attractions, impressive witnesses of the destructive powers of the volcanoes and the sea, such as and El GolfoLos Hervideros, where these combined powers created over centuries stunning ‘nature art’.

The south also boasts the contrasting landscapes of the vast flat gravel plain El Rubicón in the west and the high plateau of the Los Ajaches Nature Reserve in the east as well as the fertile winegrowing valley of La Geria north of Yaiza and Uga.

And – last but not least - there is the attractive southern coast line with the island’s most laid-back holiday resort of Playa Blanca and its excellent beaches as well as the nearby southernmost tip of the island – Punta de Papagayo – where you will find many picturesque coves and beautiful sandy beaches.
