OrzolaContinuing north on the coastal road through the badlands, we arrive at Orzola, Lanzarote’s most northerly village.
This peaceful fishing settlement is an ideal base for enthusiastic anglers, but for those who prefer to eat a fish without having to catch it first, Orzola is also known for its fine seafood restaurants stretching along the seafront, often with nice terraces overlooking the small harbour. Protected by reefs of volcanic rock, the harbour area is not safe for swimming or diving when the weather is rough. Situated further west, there is a picturesque, small beach – called Playa de la Cantería – with white sand, ideal for sun bathing and windsurfing but unfortunately swimming conditions are not very good here because of strong sea currents. Orzola has kept a genuine unspoilt charm, which even the ferry service to the neighbouring islet of La Graciosa several times a day cannot harm. • TIP • See our Lanzarote Map for a closer look |
