Blessed with excellent weather conditions all year round, Lanzarote is the perfect location for the practice of all kinds of outdoor leisure and sports activities – in winter and summer alike.

There is loads of fun to be had, with an abundance of enjoyable pastimes that will complement your holiday in the sunshine. Here at Spain-Lanzarote, we know that some people like to be active when on vacation, combining a stay in their luxury hotel in a destination that has much to offer in the way of both leisurely and exciting pursuits. Lanzarote is a great place for this!

Walking/Hiking
On land, the best way to get away from it all and to explore Lanzarote’s natural beauty is by walking. Take a stroll along the senderos (footpaths), established by the Cabildo Insular (Island Government) to promote rural tourism. There are many of these types of fixed trails that allow you to get close to nature, take in the sights and get some fantastic photographs. Some of these routes may be more challenging than others, so be sure to check them out beforehand. Once there, you will literally be walking in the footsteps of the early inhabitants who used these same ancient paths to get around the island centuries ago.

Any hikers out there can talk to their hotel reception for more information about where to find these specific routes. And do not forget to pack suitable footwear, take plenty of water and perhaps wear a hat if you plan to be out in the sun for a long time.

Cycling
Fans of cycling and mountain biking can use a series of defined routes and trails to enjoy their outings. Bicycle hire is available in most major resorts; speak to your hotel for more details.

Speleology
Lanzarote’s explosive volcanic history has shaped the landscape and created many awesome lava caves and tubes. There are not too many places in the world where you can explore huge crevices and exciting caves like this – Lanzarote has them all!

Golf
How about a game of your favourite sport in beautiful surroundings with breathtaking views of volcanoes, mountains and the ocean? Play until your heart is content under glorious blue skies and lovely warm sunshine. Look here for more information of specific Golf courses.

In the water
The Atlantic, its winds, warm water temperatures and well-developed infrastructures provide excellent conditions for the practice of all kinds of water sports all over the Canaries. Lanzarote’s surrounding waters are considered some of the clearest and warmest, ideal for swimming, scuba diving and snorkelling, especially on the south coast where the sea is calmer.

Things often change when you get to see them from a different perspective. If you think Lanzarote is impressive to experience on the ground, then wait until you get to see it from a ‘bird’s eye view’. If you fancy feeling the wind in your hair and the adrenalin pumping through your veins, try out parascending. This action-packed activity is available on many of Lanzarote’s beaches  and sees thrill-seekers being attached to a special parachute that is hitched up into the air and pulled by a speedboat.

In addition, all kinds of exciting marine excursions are available. Due to rougher sea conditions and stronger winds, the north coast is a very popular place for surfing, sailing, windsurfing and powerboat racing.

If you prefer to stay on-site, then why not use the fantastic facilities on offer at the 4 and 5-star hotels recommended by us? They have tennis courts, gyms, swimming pools galore and much more.
