Lanzarote is a very safe holiday island with very low crimes rates even in Arrecife, the capital.

The main advice from the travel experts at Spain-Lanzarote is just to behave as you would at home or anywhere else in the world. Be mindful of where you keep your money, do not leave bags unattended and take the normal necessary precautions at all times. Be vigilant with handbags and camera equipment and always keep them close to you. If you hire a car, ensure it is locked, parked appropriately and take all belongings with you.

In the unlikely event of an emergency, police can be contacted on 112. Speak to your hotel staff for more assistance. Please remember that you can also use the hotel safety deposit boxes to store valuable belongings and personal documents.

Your travel insurance should cover you for any losses but in order to process a claim, you will need proof from the police that you have reported the crime.

Finally, regardless of the time of the year that you choose to visit Lanzarote, do not be fooled by cool breezes – even on cloudy days! Use a sun lotion with a high protection factor and be sure to reapply every 1.5 hours. Too much is better than not enough! In addition, drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.

As always in life, common sense at all times should spare you any grief!
